Based in SE Calgary, we are currently seeking a Senior Accountant for maternity leave coverage (15-month contract) to start as soon as possible. We operate in a fast-paced and exciting environment. You will be responsible for:

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing the AP function, including reviewing and approving payments, managing payment plans, and ensuring accuracy in weekly payment proposals.
  • Monitor banking and cash balances, determining fund transfer requirements as necessary.
  • Review daily Cash Reports and distribute to executives and the finance team.
  • Perform regular bank reconciliations to maintain accuracy and transparency in financial records.

Month-End Responsibilities:

  • Reconcile lease data between lease and accounting software, identifying and addressing any discrepancies or adjustments required.
  • Conduct GL reconciliations and prepare necessary journal entries to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Review Profit and Loss (P&L) accounts, reclassifying transactions when necessary.
  • Performing inventory valuation and monthly adjustments.
  • Calculate and reconcile depreciation, conduct variance analysis (MoM / QoQ / Budget to Actuals) and prepare financial KPIs.
  • Prepare cash flow statements, year-to-date financials, and compile necessary documentation for bank compliance reporting.

Additional Projects and Duties:

  • Handle lease management activities.
  • Assist with various projects and initiatives, including software implementations, compliance engagements, and process improvements within Accounts Payable.
  • Conduct accounting research to determine appropriate treatments for specific transactions and issues.
  • Provide support during audit engagements by preparing continuity schedules, gathering samples, and assisting with notes disclosure support.

What you bring to the role:

  • CPA designation with 5+ years experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • High level of expertise with Microsoft Products
  • Willingness to work in an open office, dog friendly environment
