The Senior Property Accountant will have day-to-day responsibility for overseeing the accounting of the Single-Family Rental (SFR) property portfolios of large clients, utilizing US GAAP in a deadline-driven environment. The successful candidate will coordinate record-to-report activity, ensuring the ability to close monthly, producing accurate financials in a consistent and controlled manner. The incumbent will also coordinate across internal and external stakeholders to support issue resolution and delivery of financial information.

Responsibilities

Lead the monthly close process including the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, analysis of variations and communication of the results.
Responsible for overseeing overseas property accounting staff, external resources, calendars, and deliverables.
Manage the client accounting team’s day-to-day property accounting activities, including managing client invoicing, property accruals and accounts payable expense coding at property level.
Finalize monthly financial statements and reporting for Clients and business unit leaders.
Interact and work closely with Property Management and various business unit leaders to develop effective and efficient accounting processes and facilitate the integration of the Company’s operating systems.
Perform and review cash management activities in collaboration with the Treasury Manager.
Analyze current operations and identify opportunities for improvement.
Discover training needs and provide coaching and mentorship.
Establish and monitor staff performance and employee goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance reviews.
Assist with audits involving review of accounting and administrative controls.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
5-10 years of accounting and financial management experience, including at least 3-5 years of experience serving in a property management, real estate or similar industry spanning most of the key job responsibilities summarized above
Strong understanding of US GAAP
Proficient in MS Excel and strong understanding of Netsuite or large ERP systems
Must possess strong interpersonal communications skills with the ability to manage and coordinate the activities of others.
Possess solid organizational and analytical abilities that allow for project leadership, mentoring and decision making
Team oriented, results oriented, with an innate commitment to continuous improvement.
