The Senior Property Accountant will have day-to-day responsibility for overseeing the accounting of the Single-Family Rental (SFR) property portfolios of large clients, utilizing US GAAP in a deadline-driven environment. The successful candidate will coordinate record-to-report activity, ensuring the ability to close monthly, producing accurate financials in a consistent and controlled manner. The incumbent will also coordinate across internal and external stakeholders to support issue resolution and delivery of financial information.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the monthly close process including the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, analysis of variations and communication of the results.
  • Responsible for overseeing overseas property accounting staff, external resources, calendars, and deliverables.
  • Manage the client accounting team’s day-to-day property accounting activities, including managing client invoicing, property accruals and accounts payable expense coding at property level.
  • Finalize monthly financial statements and reporting for Clients and business unit leaders.
  • Interact and work closely with Property Management and various business unit leaders to develop effective and efficient accounting processes and facilitate the integration of the Company’s operating systems.
  • Perform and review cash management activities in collaboration with the Treasury Manager.
  • Analyze current operations and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Discover training needs and provide coaching and mentorship.
  • Establish and monitor staff performance and employee goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance reviews.
  • Assist with audits involving review of accounting and administrative controls.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 5-10 years of accounting and financial management experience, including at least 3-5 years of experience serving in a property management, real estate or similar industry spanning most of the key job responsibilities summarized above
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP
  • Proficient in MS Excel and strong understanding of Netsuite or large ERP systems
  • Must possess strong interpersonal communications skills with the ability to manage and coordinate the activities of others.
  • Possess solid organizational and analytical abilities that allow for project leadership, mentoring and decision making
  • Team oriented, results oriented, with an innate commitment to continuous improvement.
